Boys hoops open subregion play with a win
The real season began last night – the subregion season – and the Golden Bears boys hoops squad made the best of it with a 52-43 win on the road over Mt. Paran. The Bears are now 6-10, but more importantly – 1-0 in 5A subregion play – and will be on the road tonight for a non-region game against No. 9-ranked Paideia.

“The guys were fired up,” Coach Mike Harner said. “We stuck to our game plan both offensively and defensively and we were rewarded for it. We had a lot of good hustle plays, which was good to see.”

The one-two scoring attack of Hamilton Bailey and DeMarcus Acree got it done once again – Bailey scored 21 and Acree 20.

Harner pointed out several others, however, who came up big.

“Kramer Dean pulled 13 rebounds and we got great post defense out of him, Alex Watkins and Darius Bowling.”

Watkins also scored five points and pulled nine boards and had an excellent floor game according to Harner.

Tyler Heyman scored three and Deans added a point to round out the scoring.
