Third in state! The No. 5-ranked boys golf team competed in Augusta Monday, shooting another school record – a 2-over par 290. They placed third in Class A in the process. “We played unbelievably,” Coach Jim Griffin said. Lucas Erlacher shot a 3-under 69, Watts Douglas a 72, Blake Snellings 74 and Ryan Cox 75. Erlacher was named Northside Neighbor Male Athlete of the Week last week. Not to be undone, junior Casey Farrell shot a personal best 87 despite the wet course; she finished ninth in the state. Way to go golfers!

Wing feet! Six girls will head to Albany May 14-15 for the Class A State Track Meet! Greer Gafford qualified in the 1,600-meter run with a PR time of 5:25.36 and in the 3,200 with a 12:20. She was second in both. Liz Link was second in the triple jump with a final leap of 34’ ¾’ to punch her ticket. Christine Georgakakos earned her bid in the 800 with a second-place 2:25 and the 4 X 400 runner-up relay team of Rebecca Hamm, Corinne Bicknese, Georgakakos and Link also qualified. Christina Callaway and Gafford are alternates in the relay. The girls placed third in the region, their best finish since 2004. …Adam Wypyski, Zane Trott, O’Neal Wanliss, C.J. James and Christian Rasmussen will compete this Thursday and Friday in Jefferson in the Class A Boys State Track Meet.

Region champs!
The baseball team edged Walker 13-12 last Thursday on the road to capture the region 5A title. They have won 11 of their last 12 and host the first round of the Class A state tournament Friday in a doubleheader against Excel Christian. Wills Aitkens went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI against the Wolverines; Joe Austin was 4-for-4 with three RBI and a stolen base. Others who stepped up included Jack Farrell (2-for-4), Whit Woodring (2-for-3), Charles Henley (1-for-3), Jackson Davis (1-for-3) and Mitchell Davis (three runs scored). Woodring earned the win; Travis Stout picked up the save. The Bears won the state crown two years ago and advanced to the Elite 8 last season.

Lax facts: The boys lacrosse team went down in the Final 8 in the state Saturday, dropping a tough 10-6 contest to Milton at Milton. The Bears played without three injured starters. Chase Brown led the scoring with three goals; Darius Bowling picked up 11 ground balls and nearly shut out their All-American attackman. Others who excelled included Frank Fallon, Adli Kilic, Joe Byrd, Robert Margeson, Jordan Miller and Eric Wypyski (12 saves). The Bears will graduate five.

Ad out! Unfortunately the boys tennis season ended in the Class A state quarterfinals last Thursday with a tough 3-2 loss to Walker. Both doubles lost; Zach Reece and Owen Brock won. It all went down to No. 3 singles where Keaton Anderson dropped a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 decision to end the year. The team will graduate all nine players this May.
