2022 Awards Presented to Upper School Students

In events held on Monday, May 2 and on Thursday, May 5, Upper School students were recognized for a wide variety of achievements, from academics to athletic to leadership and more. For academic awards, each student was selected by the course’s teacher and other awards were selected by committee. Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School congratulates these students for their excellence.

The Frank L. Butler/Marilyn Butler Blane Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a current freshman in good academic standing who exhibits a selfless attitude, demonstrates an ability to lead, and actively participates in the community: Grace Cavallo

The National Honor Society Scholarship is awarded to a current sophomore who demonstrates exceptional academic ability and performance: Hun Chi

The Mike Thornton Normandy Academy Fellowship is awarded to two rising juniors or seniors with exceptional character and a demonstrated interest in World War II and global history: Jacob King and Annie Waters

The Alice L. Malcolm Headmaster’s Award is awarded to a rising senior who best exemplifies the philosophy of the school: Ariel Abernathy

The Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship is awarded to a qualifying student and presented by the Marietta/Roswell alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta: Kaylin Harris

Two students received their appointments to service academies from alumni of the academies who attended the ceremony. Christopher Binney will attend the U.S. Naval Academy and James Gleeson will attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, where he will play football. 

The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program Georgia is a residential summer program held on the Berry College campus for gifted and talented rising juniors and seniors. Parker Miles  will study math and Will Weaver will study music. 

Students were recognized for achievement in the National Merit Scholarship Program based on their scores in the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test: Joseph GadomskiCharlie HillLiam MaguireLouise McKownHarrison PrestonHaley Robinson and Brandon SertlAbigail JablonMegan O'ConnorTanvi Shanbhag and George Wray have qualified as finalists. 

The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program honors Georgia’s highest achieving high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on any single test date of the SAT taken through the November test date of their senior year and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average: George Wray (student) and Daniel Forrestal (teacher)

The Scholar Athlete Awards are presented to a senior male and female student-athlete with an exemplary GPA who best represents Holy Innocents’ in their sport and model our core values. Each recipient continues to have a positive attitude, give maximum effort, compete with integrity and is a great teammate: Naja Reeves and James Gleeson

The Madie Wilbanks Award for Excellence in Fine & Performing Arts goes to a senior whose excellence in the arts has brought inspiration to fellow students and faculty: Abigail Jablon

The James R. Best Award for Excellence in Math & Computer Science goes to a senior whose excellence in math or computer science has brought inspiration to fellow students and faculty: Tanvi Shanbhag

The Atlanta Journal Cup is awarded to a senior who demonstrates excellence in academics, leadership and school community activities: George Wray

The Citizenship Award is presented to a senior who best exemplifies outstanding conduct toward other students, faculty, school and community: Charlie Hill

The Excellence in Moral Courage Award goes to a senior who demonstrates moral strength, integrity and courage: Ahmari Whitehead

The Salutatorian Is awarded to the senior with the second highest GPA throughout his or her high school career: Abigail Jablon

The Valedictorian is awarded to the senior with the highest GPA throughout his or her high school career: Brandon Sertl and George Wray

The Principal’s Award is presented to a member of the senior class who has demonstrated academic achievement, commitment, responsibility and dedication to Holy Innocents’: Louise McKown

The Faculty Award is presented to a senior who demonstrates scholarship, leadership and moral character: Abigail Jablon

The Headmaster’s Award is presented to that member of the graduating class who, with broad interests and with participation in a wide range of activities and pursuits, has made an outstanding contribution to the life and work of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School: George Wray (in photo)
