In the Upper School Awards Ceremony held on Thursday, May 5, the highly anticipated announcements of the 2022 valedictorian and salutatorian were made by Manning Weir, Upper School principal.
The Valedictorian is awarded to the senior with the highest GPA throughout his or her high school career. This year, even with thousands of grades to calculate, Brandon Sertl and George Wray tied for Valedictorian. As Mr. Weir noted, “It’s only fitting that the class of 2022 has not one but two valedictorians.”
The students combined have completed 10 AP courses. Every course they have taken in the last four years has been either an honors level or AP class. To date, they each have scored a 5 on every AP test. Their extracurricular activities cover the campus, from orchestra to broadcast journalism to science, math and trivia. George will attend University of Virginia and Brandon will attend Georgia Tech.
The students will give their valedictory address at the Class of 2022 Commencement on Saturday, May 14.
The Salutatorian Is awarded to the senior with the second highest GPA throughout his or her high school career. The 2022 Salutatorian is Abigail Jablon. She was a founding member of the National Art Honor Society as a freshman and ultimately became its president, serving in that role for three years. She has played an integral part in planning such events as Science Palooza and the Recycled Fashion Show and started a math club. She was a consistent figure on the cross country team and even created the artwork for the Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School Christmas card.
“She’s a multi-dimensional student with an unmatched work ethic who has contributed to our community in ways that will live on beyond graduation,” Mr. Weir said. “She fully invests her time and energy into every corner of her life, including school, sports, the arts, and her own personal development." Abigail will attend Rice University.
Abigail will give her salutatory address at the Class of 2022 Baccalaureate ceremony on Friday, May 13.
