Golden Bears Give Back

At this time of year, Holy Innocents' Episcopal School students have given both time and donations to support a variety of worthy causes in our community.

In November, the Upper School Mercy Care Club collected a total of 402 hygiene kits and 75 food kits that were then donated to Mercy Care. With 74 percent of Mercy Care patients living at or below the poverty line, the organization helps provide social and medical services to those in need. The donated food and hygiene kits collected will be taken to help the homeless population of Atlanta, specifically downtown. In December the club collected 155 kits.

In early December, Upper School students volunteered to help stock the Solidarity Sandy Springs Food Pantry. This center opened during COVID shutdowns to help food-insecure families and has grown to support many in the community. The Donation Station Club also held a collection of hats and mittens to give to the organization.

In Middle School, students donated shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, granola bars, chips and other items to assemble both hygiene kits and snack bags that were donated to  Hope Atlantaa local organization that provides individualized assistance, resources and advocacy for people experiencing homelessness (or at risk of becoming homeless) across 28 counties in Georgia, with special resources for veterans and their families. During homeroom time, all Middle School students assembled a total of 960 hygiene kits and snack bags for distribution. In addition, Middle School students gave 250 toys for Toys for Tots to be donated around Atlanta.

In Primary School, students brought mittens and food items to support Wellspring Living, which provides recovery services to women in Atlanta.

The generosity of our Golden Bear families and their support of so many charitable organizations, especially in 2020, is an inspirational gift in itself. Thank you to all for your time and treasure.
