Melina Khademi Wins Fifth Grade Spelling Bee

Holy Innocents' Episcopal School held a Spelling Bee for 5th grade on Thursday, November 18, where Melina Khademi earned the title of champion.

Nineteen students participated in the Bee after qualifying in classroom bees. They competed in seven rounds, after which only three spellers remained before Melina was called to spell the word "intolerance."

In earlier rounds, students spelled words such as "ogre," "lavished, "renowned" and "mutual."

Laura Peters, Reading Coach for 3rd-5th grades coordinated the bee with assistance from the 5th grade teacher. Dr. Nigel Traylor, Middle School Principal, served as the word caller. Associate Head of School Steven Turner, Director of Humanities Erik Vincent and Director of Athletics Tony Watkins served as judges.

Congratulations to Melina and all the spellers!
