HIES Welcomes Morel Doucet, Artist and Scholar in Residence
This week, we welcomed Miami-based artist and educator Morel Doucet as our Scholar in Residence. Known for his work in ceramics, illustration and printmaking, Mr. Doucet explores environmental themes and human stories through bold imagery and layered symbolism. His work has been featured in "Vogue Mexico" and "The New York Times."

Throughout the week, students across campus engaged with Mr. Doucet through Town Halls, classroom visits and hands-on creative experiences inspired by his work. He shared reflections on his artistic practice, his homeland of Haiti and the role art can play in helping us better understand the world around us. From exploring nature and movement in Lower School art classes to deeper studio explorations and conversations about storytelling with older students, the residency invited students to slow down, observe closely and create with intention. Thank you to the Fine Arts Alliance, the Program for Global Citizenship and HIES Multicultural Affairs for making this meaningful experience possible!

Mr. Doucet's residency will conclude this Sunday at HIES at the High, a free community event from 1-3 p.m. at the High Museum of Art. Families are invited to enjoy original artwork from 150 HIES students in the Education Gallery, meet Mr. Doucet, watch a special performance from our second-grade class and a fashion show by the National Art Honor Society. We hope to see you there!
