Students in the Primary School are embarking on an exciting journey of discovery in their Explorers class! Led by Kara Hill-Protos and supported by the HIES Global Education team, the Explorers course introduces young learners to the concepts of global exploration, cultural differences and geography through hands-on activities.
In the first week of school, students met "Gilbert," a small globe that sparks their global imaginations and guides them through their adventures. The second week of class featured a watercolor activity where each child painted their own masterpiece.
"After the paint dried, we all looked at them and I asked if they could find two that were the same. One little girl said, 'They are all unique just like us!'" Ms. Hill-Protos said, reflecting on how the course helps these young Golden Bears understand diversity and uniqueness.
As the weeks progress, students will create their own "passports" in preparation for imaginative trips to places like Morocco, the Galapagos Islands and Antarctica.
“We are laying the foundation of where we are, who we are and the differences among us,” Ms. Hill-Protos shared. We're excited to watch these Explorers continue their adventures!
