The HIES eSports team has been making waves this season, with both the Super Smash Bros. and Rocket League teams achieving big competitive milestones. The Super Smash Bros. team, featuring Lucas Chong '28, Ryan Deguire '27, Robert Simmons '25 and Fletcher Witzigreuter '26, ended their season on Tuesday, Dec. 3, after an impressive playoff run, finishing in the 5-8 spots statewide. Ranked 12th in the state, the team delivered a fierce performance in a best-of-five match.
Meanwhile, the Rocket League team of Jack Chaloupek '27, Kaden Jackson '25 and Anthony Paz '25 headed to the Final Four on Friday, Dec. 6, facing off against the top-ranked Academy of Richmond. A group of supporters gathered for a live watch party in the STEM Building and, while the Golden Bears didn't come out victorious, the team will proudly finish their season with a fourth-place state ranking.
