Round Square

A Unique Membership

Holy Innocents’ is a proud member of Round Square International, an association of nearly 180 schools - on six continents - and in over 50 countries. Round Square encourages students to adventure beyond academic excellence to develop their full potential through discovery and the power of experiential education. Round Square schools share a commitment to character education and experiential learning built around six themes – the IDEALS – International Understanding, Democracy, Environmental Stewardship, Adventure, Leadership and Service. These IDEALS are underpinned by 12 Discoveries that students explore on their learning journey: inquisitiveness, tenacity, courage, compassion, inventiveness, ability to solve problems, self-awareness, sense of responsibility, appreciation of diversity, commitment to sustainability, communication and team-working skills.

Part of Our Global Narrative

Ultimately, at HIES, we want our students to understand that whatever field of work or career they enter into after they us, with a spirit of the Round Square IDEALS they can – and should – make a positive difference in the world: They don’t have to wear a backpack and hiking boots to experience adventure; they don’t have to be a doctor to save lives; they don’t have to go on a community service project to help a community in need; they don’t have to run a charity in order to be a compassionate leader.

Conference Participation

HIES students in the middle and upper grades have participated in the following conference opportunities:

  • Cape Town, South Africa - Fall 2017 - St. Cyprian’s School

Student Leadership Team

Our Round Square Student Leadership Team (SLT) is made up of past conference delegates and other students interested in using the IDEALS to inform co- and extra-curricular opportunities to advance our community’s understanding of global issues, develop our students’ leadership skills and instill an ethic of civic engagement in the wider HIES community. Among the initiatives spearheaded by the SLT since 2016 include hosting a Disparity Meal, hosting leadership from International Community School, Ghana and Ermitage International School of France, expanding our Model United Nations program, and participating in a virtual global conference organized by Chittagong Grammar School in Bangladesh.

CORE

By connecting with others across distance and difference, our students come to understand whatever field of work or career they enter into after they leave us, with a spirit of the Round Square IDEALS they can – and should – make a positive difference in the world. Round Square informs an educational experience that aims to cultivate leaders to act ethically and creatively in the world.
