Meredith Seacrest Leach ’99 has collaborated with her brother, Ryan Seacrest, on a children’s book titled The Make-Believers. Inspired by their imaginative childhood experiences, the book encourages young readers to tap into their creativity through the power of make believe.
Ms. Leach fondly recalls the adventures she and her brother shared growing up.
“We would play pretend a lot—whether Ryan was Bon Jovi or I was Madonna,” she said, reminiscing about how they would perform for their parents.
These early experiences in creativity, she believes, not only shaped their childhood but also inspired The Make-Believers. The book serves as a reminder that imagination can inspire young readers to dream big, much like her brother’s journey from pretending to be a radio DJ and making tape recordings to becoming a prominent television and radio host.
In addition to her literary endeavors, Ms. Leach serves as the Executive Director and COO of the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, which brings joy to pediatric patients across the country through Seacrest Studios. She balances her impactful work with the Foundation alongside her role as a mother and creative. The Foundation will soon open a new studio at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Arthur M. Blank Hospital, with Ms. Leach set to attend the opening ceremony mid-October.
“What’s most rewarding about our work at the Foundation is hearing from parents that their child smiled today or got out of bed because of what we’re doing,” she said. “There are many aspects, outside of medicine, that play a vital role in the healing journey. Patients need positive distractions, a creative outlet, the power to make their own decisions and unique opportunities that encourage optimistic thoughts during treatment. That’s what we offer in Seacrest Studios.”
Reflecting on her time at HIES, Ms. Leach credits the school for encouraging her to explore diverse interests.
“What I love about Holy Innocents’ is that it gave me the opportunity to try a lot of things,” she said. “I was able to play sports, join clubs, and explore various activities. It helped ignite something in me that carried into adulthood.”
The Make-Believers launches with a book signing in New York City, followed by an event in Atlanta on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m., at Holy Trinity Parish Episcopal Church (515 East Ponce de Leon Avenue). Click here for more information.
