Media Literacy at HIES
Directors, Anchors, Editors: Developing Leadership in Media Literacy
Students who participate in media literacy programs at HIES, from the news magazine to yearbook or broadcast staff, are learning tangible skills that will set them up for college and career success. Learning how to lead their peers, to create relevant and engaging content, to cold call and interview experts and to package and share information will broaden your horizons and grow your confidence. Whether you're a field reporter or a yearbook editor, Media Literacy students get hands-on journalism experience that translates to the real world.
Lights, Camera, Action!
In film class, students develop advanced screenwriting skills, cinematography techniques and digital editing skills using industry-standard equipment and software. Every year, HIES puts on an Oscars-style Film Festival, complete with a Red Carpet, at the Springs Cinema Theatre in Sandy Springs for sold-out audiences. Filmmakers craft trailers and movie posters, and see their ideas come to life on the silver screen.
